Description

Philly Cheesesteak Garlic Bread combines tender shaved steak, sautéed peppers and onions, melted provolone and mozzarella cheeses on a crispy, buttery garlic bread base for a deliciously satisfying appetizer or main course.

Ingredients

Scale

Steak and Vegetables

  • 1 Tbsp olive oil (divided)
  • 1 red bell pepper (thinly sliced)
  • 1 green bell pepper (thinly sliced)
  • 1 large yellow onion (thinly sliced)
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 16 oz shaved steak (or thinly sliced ribeye steak)
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika

Garlic Bread

  • 1 loaf French bread
  • 3 Tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp Italian seasonings

Cheese and Garnish

  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • ¼ cup chopped Italian parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare Vegetables: Heat half of the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced red and green bell peppers and yellow onion. Sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Add 2 tsp minced garlic during the last minute of cooking, then remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Cook Steak: In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil and heat over medium-high heat. Add shaved steak, sprinkle with kosher salt, black pepper, dried oregano, and smoked paprika. Cook until the steak is browned and cooked through, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Mix in the sautéed peppers and onions until combined.
  3. Prepare Garlic Bread Base: Preheat the oven to 375°F. Slice the French bread loaf lengthwise. In a small bowl, combine melted butter, minced garlic, grated Parmesan cheese, and Italian seasonings. Brush this mixture generously over the cut sides of the bread.
  4. Assemble the Garlic Bread: Place the bread halves on a baking sheet cut side up. Layer the provolone slices evenly over the bread, then spread the steak and vegetable mixture on top. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over everything.
  5. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the bread edges are golden and crisp.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven, sprinkle chopped Italian parsley on top for freshness, slice into 8 servings, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use ribeye for a richer flavor or substitute with sirloin for a leaner option.
  • For extra spice, add red pepper flakes to the sautéed vegetables.
  • Make sure to slice the bread thickly to hold the toppings without becoming soggy.
  • This dish is perfect for sharing as a game day snack or casual dinner.
  • Leftover garlic bread can be reheated in the oven to maintain crispiness.
