Description

This Christmas Magic Layer Brownie Bars recipe combines rich chocolate brownies with festive layers of coconut, sweetened condensed milk, M&Ms, nuts, and holiday sprinkles for a delightful holiday treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Brownie Base

  • 1½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup salted butter (1 stick)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Layer Toppings

  • ¾ cup nuts (optional, divided)
  • ¼ cup mini holiday M&Ms (divided)
  • ¾ cup regular holiday M&Ms (divided)
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (divided)
  • 1 cup sweetened flaked coconut
  • ¾ cup sweetened condensed milk (from a 14 ounce can)
  • ¼ cup holiday sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9-inch baking pan with foil or parchment paper and spray it with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Melt Butter and Chocolate: Place the butter and semi-sweet chocolate chips in a large microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, then stir. Continue microwaving and stirring in 30-second intervals until the mixture is melted and smooth.
  3. Mix Sugar, Vanilla, and Eggs: Beat in the granulated sugar, then add the vanilla extract, followed by the eggs and egg yolk. Mix until everything is well combined.
  4. Add Flour: Stir in the all-purpose flour until just combined; be careful not to overmix. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  5. Bake Brownie Base: Bake the batter in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. The brownies will still jiggle slightly but should appear set on top.
  6. Add Layer Ingredients: Remove the pan from the oven and carefully layer chopped nuts, half of the semi-sweet chocolate chips, half of both the mini and regular holiday M&Ms, followed by all of the sweetened flaked coconut over the brownie base.
  7. Pour Sweetened Condensed Milk: Evenly pour the sweetened condensed milk over the layered toppings and gently spread it to cover the surface uniformly.
  8. Top with Remaining Ingredients: Sprinkle the remaining semi-sweet chocolate chips, remaining mini and regular holiday M&Ms, and the holiday sprinkles on top of the condensed milk layer.
  9. Bake Final Layer: Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the middle is set with a light golden brown top. If the top browns too quickly, tent loosely with foil to prevent burning.
  10. Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, use a sharp knife to cut into 9 bars. Store in a tightly sealed container for up to one week.

Notes

  • Use foil or parchment paper to line the pan to make removal easier.
  • Chilling the bars after baking can help achieve cleaner cuts.
  • Feel free to substitute nuts according to your preference or omit if desired.
  • If you don't have holiday-themed M&Ms and sprinkles, any colorful candies or sprinkles can add festive touches.
  • To prevent burning the top layer, check periodically and cover with foil if browning too fast.
